Bibi and I met in college 38 years ago. We have both been exercising in some fashion for all those years since. Bibi has participated in dance, exercise classes, and has been a faithful jogger. I was more into competitions and endurance sports. I ran, lifted weights, bicycled, and swam. Our exercise was done independently because we both had different abilities and routines. Our answer in 2011 for trying to exercise together was to begin riding a tandem bicycle. I had ridden a bicycle competitively for 15 years so this was a big change, but we loved it. We trained, rode rallies, races, completed the 100 mile Hotter Than Hell, and bicycled across Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, eventually logging 4000 miles in a year.
I came across Crossfit Rockwall while looking for a way to get through the winter months with an indoor exercise routine. My plan was to go for 2-3 months until the weather was warmer and then get back to our routine on the bike. Much to my surprise, I found Crossfit to be the best approach to fitness that I had found. Three to five hours on a bike was replaced by 1 hour of organized and unique cross training that supplanted the weights, running, and cycling. Weather variables were gone and so was a need for lots of personal equipment. Best of all, I had found an even better exercise routine that Bibi and I could do together at whatever level we were comfortable with. Bibi became completely dedicated to Crossfit, becoming someone who never misses the 40 times/3 month All-Star recognition. For the first time it is Bibi who is setting the standard for us and I am trying to keep up! We even find Crossfit boxes when we go on trips out of town and get in a WOD. Along the way we have made new friends and physically have the best overall fitness we have ever had. Crossfit has become the perfect vehicle for our lifelong exercise commitment.
