My athletic background is nothing to write home about, but I started Crossfit, like most, to lose baby weight after my second kid. I had no clue what I was getting involved in. I could never imagine the love I would have for Crossfit, more specifically, Crossfit Rockwall. What’s even better, the reality of how much I love Crossfit is way better than I could have ever dreamed.
From Crossfit Rockwall I have learned a few things about myself. First, I was taught that I am lazy. Well, actually, I knew that - CFR just reaffirmed it. Despite being lazy, I did discover that I am strong and guess what? I L-O-V-E being strong! Who knew?!? I love seeing hard work pay off. You definitely get out what you put in and the results are addicting. I really didn’t know how strong I could be until I tried out the Weightlifting Club. After one class I thought to myself - oh my gosh, I love this stuff! My obsession with Olympic lifts and getting stronger developed. Going through Coach Woody’s lifting programming has been incredible. It was amazing how much my technique and strength improved. It really showed me that consistency and motivation makes all the difference. From that, I have been able to compete in weightlifting meets with confidence…which by the way, are so fun to do!
Something else that I have learned from Crossfit Rockwall is the overwhelming feeling you get when you help someone. I was fortunate to become a coach at CFR. Besides the knowledge I have gained from Mary & Mike, I was given the opportunity to help others with their Crossfit experience. Whether it was to help them learn a new movement or coach them as they achieved a goal, the feeling of helping others is intoxicating. I get to see people better themselves on a daily basis. It doesn’t matter what age they are, from an 11 year old pre-teen getting her first pull-up, to an adult setting an amazing back squat PR. When they accomplish something they didn’t know they could do, it’s incredible. To see someone smile because they are proud of themselves…man, that is a great feeling! The best part is, I get to call our members my good friends and I truly consider them family.
I am very thankful for Crossfit Rockwall and how there is always something new to learn. I am thankful for the strength and knowledge I have gained each day. I am oh so thankful for the friendships that have developed over the years. After 3 years of crossfitting, I know that I will always be around and for a lazy person, that’s kind of a big deal!
