CrossFit leapt into our lives in Sept 2009, Jennifer had just started back to work full time and needed something “different.” She had been running since 2003 and mixed in some classes at the “Y”, but it had gotten stale. She needed accountability and a challenge. We had heard of CrossFit and looked at the websites a few times, and even though it seemed intimidating, Jennifer decided to give it a try. It was great timing as going back to teaching full time was stressful and CrossFit was a great way to manage the stress and help Jennifer find that “me” time. Her energy levels and her self-confidence grew through the Fall, she was hooked!
I, on the other hand, was a “triathlete” and though impressed by the workouts and my wife’s increasing strength and skill, felt that my “tried and true” training was good enough. That all changed in late 2010 after completing a 25 week intense Half-Ironman training and race. I found myself physically and mental drained. I knew that there had to be a better way, so I began CrossFitting late Nov 2010, really as a way to build up my body again and to keep my fitness level up for the next Tri season. I saw it as a 90-120 day experiment, however, as with Jennifer, I was soon hooked.
Jennifer and I love the challenge of CrossFit, the camaraderie of the members, and we have fun competing against each other! Now that CrossFit Rockwall has CrossFit Kids, both of our daughters are part of the program. We have watched our daughters build strength and confidence, as they both have conquered the rope climb and realize fitness is fun. We are a busy family, but believe that a healthy lifestyle is important. CrossFit has helped us pursue this together as a family.
