Scott and I have always been an active couple. We love riding dirt bikes, going camping, skiing, and doing lots of outdoor activities. However, life definitely started to get in the way. Two kids in three years, grad school, 5 moves, and working two years’ worth of night shifts had led to an unhealthy lifestyle of eating out and inactivity. I struggled being as active as I wanted to be and was so exhausted all of the time. My friend talked me into trying CrossFit, so then I talked Scott into giving it a go with me. Other than having kids, this was the bravest thing I had ever done!
Before the elements class I was terrified and nauseated. My biggest concern was that I just didn't want to look like an idiot. The coaches were so nice, helpful, down to earth, and encouraging. One thing I love about Crossfit Rockwall is that it’s so structured. The classes are run the same way every day. They keep records of your maxes and the lift cycles allow you to see measurable results. I had started working out in order to lose weight, but I ended up getting stronger and better at life. I can pick my kids off the ground over and over again, carry the car seat, and move furniture. I have the energy to get crap done! Being active is fun again! I can ride my dirt bike longer, faster, and harder. I can pick it up and start it when I crash, haha! We've added Crossfit into our week so that there aren't any excuses for not going. The classes are something we look forward to going to everyday. My husband Scott is now so much more engaged in our family routine once he comes home from his class at Crossfit.
I played sports as long as I can remember, all the way through high school basketball when being 6 feet tall and not being able to jump caught up with me. I was able to stay in decent shape in college because I had a pretty physically demanding job, but after Jordan and I had kids I got up to the heaviest weight I had ever been. I was not very happy with where I was at, but I was also not really looking to do anything about it. I started Crossfit in January because Jordan really wanted to and I didn’t want to make her do it alone. When we first started it was hard not to be a little intimidated because it seemed like everyone else already knew what they were doing and we didn’t. All of the coaches really helped make us feel welcome. We originally had a goal to make it to two or three classes a week. Shortly after starting, on the days I wasn’t attending class, I wanted to be there. Now, I’m at the point that if there is a day that my schedule does not allow me to make a class, I’m really disappointed and feel like I'm missing out on something. Since starting Crossfit I have lost 40 pounds and my general fitness level has improved greatly. I feel better equipped to lead an active lifestyle and hopefully be able to pass that on to my kids. Crossfit provided me with the tools I needed to get fit, as well as the community and support to stay fit.
CFR has a great team of coaches that know how to fine tune your movements and keep you safe so you won't get hurt. They help you scale things to your level until you are beast enough and don't need scaling anymore. The Eat Real Challenge has taught us a sustainable way to eat healthy, so that we're no longer stuck in an endless cycle of losing and gaining weight. God has used Crossfit to teach us how to better take care of our family. Scott and I have lost 40 pounds each, but more than that, my outlook on life is much more positive. I have more determination. I am braver than ever before. I am a better mom, wife, and friend. I am no longer defeated by or defined by my appearance but am proud of what I am capable of. We are just all-around better at life!
